About the Taos

The Volkswagen Taos is another member of the growing VW SUV family, marketed by Volkswagen as “the fun, compact SUV.” With starting prices for the latest models at just over $23,000, the Taos is affordable while also offering a well-engineered aesthetic with solid, clean lines and a hint of athletic dynamism, too.

At first glance, you might think the Taos looks a little small, and it’s certainly not as big as the Tiguan or Atlas models, but the design concept is for “small but capable.” The Taos is built for those who need a solid SUV for city and/or suburban life, but also a car that can be used for adventuring.

The VW Taos is well stocked with drive technology, starting with a bold turbocharged engine outputting 158-hp and a standard FWD drivetrain. You can also opt for VW’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system that helps redistribute torque automatically to suit changing conditions, optimizing traction as you go.

The Taos also comes with VW’s 7-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission with various drive modes --- Snow, On-Road, Off-Road, and Off-Road Custom --- to give you traction and control boosts that suit every different environment.

The interior features Volkswagen Digital Cockpit as standard, as well as a host of ADAS features like blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, and you have the option to add in IQ.DRIVE, which is VW’s advanced assistance suite that adds in things like adaptive cruise control and lane assist.

In its latest form, the VW Taos comes in 3 trims: S, SE, and SEL. Climb the trim levels to unlock Beats premium audio, more ADAS features, stylish 18-inch alloys, remote start, leather seating and much more. Some are coming to see the Taos as the “Goldilocks” SUV in the Volkswagen range. It’s not too small, but not too large, has plenty of power but won’t ramp up insurance costs like a V8 engine would, and is economical and affordable at the same time.
