About the Zoe

First launched back in 2012, the Renault Zoe is the French giant’s flagship supermini electric car. It all started as the Zoe City Car concept back in 2005, with its production version unveiled at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show. After selling more than 100,000 units, the Zoe has become the all-time best-selling EV in France up to June 2020. In fact, it had that title across all of Europe in 2015 and 2016.

While not divided into distinct generations, the Renault Zoe has been through 3 main production versions since its launch in 2012. These include the ZE with its 22-kWh lithium-ion battery, running from 2012 to 2019; the ZE 40 with its 41-kWh battery running from 2016 to 2019, and the current ZE 50 model with its 52-kWh battery launched in September 2019.

The ZE model had a single-charge range of about 130 miles, which was competitive at the time. The ZE 40 model increased that to 250 miles, which for a supermini was extremely competitive, although in reality, it turned out to be closer to about 190 miles in practice.

The latest ZE 50 offers up to 245 miles of range under more realistic conditions, making it one of the most competitive ranged EVs in its class. Other superminis like the Mini Electric still only deliver up to 110 miles of range in 2022.

The current range of Renault Zoe cars makes use of two electric motor variants, either the 80-kW R110 launched in 2018, or the 100-kW R135 launched in 2019. The former delivers an equivalence of 107-hp and 166 lb-ft of torque, while the latter delivers up to 134-hp and 181 lb-ft of torque.

The Zoe now continues to sell well across multiple European markets, especially France, Germany, and Norway, but is also sold in Turkey.
