About the T-Roc

The Volkswagen T-Roc is fairly new on the scene in the VW range, first having arrived back in 2017. It got an important refresh for the 2022 model year and now sits prominently in the VW crossover SUV lineup below the slightly larger Tiguan, and above the slightly smaller T-Cross vehicle.

The T-Roc is built on VW’s MQB platform, which is the result of around $8 billion of total investment to develop. That MQB platform is shared across a number of VW-owned marques and models, including the VW Golf, Audi A3, the Skoda Octavia, and the SEAT Leon.

The refreshed T-Roc for 2022 features new LED headlight design, a new front grille, new tail light clusters and turn signals, a newly created multi-function steering wheel with sleeker more modern controls, a new digital instrument cluster and more.

As a competitor in what has become the toughest automotive segment --- the crossover segment --- the T-Roc has received many positive reviews, especially praising its engine options and on-road performance. Standard powertrains come with a 1.0L 3-cylinder engine packing just 109-hp, but there is also a 1.5L TSI unit that beefs it up to 148-hp and offers better performance for those who regularly drive long distances and on highways.

The T-Roc has also been praised for offering a compact vehicle that is suitable for urban driving, but that still feels like driving a larger SUV. A more commanding driving position, excellent visibility, and a logical and intuitive dashboard and infotainment layout all contribute to the T-Roc outmatching competitors like the Kia Stonic in many ways, for instance.

The 8-inch touchscreen and infotainment system are easy to use in general, but the lack of any physical knobs or buttons makes operation while driving a little trickier. Fortunately, voice commands and built-in navigation all come as part and parcel of a standard T-Roc, making it an eminently accessible choice that is affordable, too.
