About the ID.3

The Volkswagen ID.3 was VW’s first foray into the world of all-electric cars. It was creating an attractive compact electric car designed to compete with the likes of the Nissan Leaf and the Chevrolet Bolt. Though the ID.3 wasn’t available in the US market, it found respectable popularity in the European market and did very well there.

The most recent VW ID.3 had a max range of 259 miles powered by a 58-kWh battery. Home charging with a level 2 system can see the ID.3 charged from 0 to 100-percent charge in just over 6 hours. The ID.3 is a more compact EV, but it still accepts DC fast charging very well, able to boost from 5 to 80 percent in just 35 minutes using a 100-kW connection.

The ID.3 was popular because it offered a compact, all-electric model that looked futuristic but also stylish whereas some other electric and hybrid models pushed more controversial looks. The interior features fun ambient lighting, a digital instrument display, and comfortable seating. And when it’s on the road, it creates a very unique generated sound --- a “floating sound” is what VW calls it --- to help you remain quiet but still audible to other road vulnerable road users.

New versions of the ID.3 also offer more efficient heat pump technology, which helps save battery power by using an innovative heat pumping system that doesn’t draw anything like the energy from the battery that conventional convection heating does. That means that the ID.3 is better able to retain its overall range in the colder winter months, a key USP for an electric car being driven in cold climates.

Additional futuristic features include an available AR driver head-up display, panoramic sunroof, voice controls, and more. It may also be compact, but the newer version comes with a longer wheelbase to make the rear seats more comfortable than ever.
