About the CC

If you think you might have seen the Volkswagen CC marketed under another name, then you’re not wrong. It was originally known as the Volkswagen Passat CC since it was built as a variant of the Passat sedan.

VW has already said in the past that CC stands for “Comfort Coupe” and was thus named for the coupe-like profile they tried to give to the car while keeping the 4-door sedan design. It was first released in 2008 and ran up to 2016 in most markets, but had a run from 2010 to 2018 in the Chinese market where it was fairly well-received. It has since been replaced by the VW Arteon range.

Powertrain options for the VW CC have ranged from 4-liter units of various displacements (1.4L, 1.8L, and 2.0L) and even a 3.6L V6 engine was used in the 4MOTION model. At the base level, the 1.4L 4-cylinder unit outputted just 158-hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. The V6, however, bumped that up to 295-hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. Two turbo-diesel engines were also available.

The car received a mid-life facelift in 2012 in which the model also got new adaptive chassis control, new ADAS features and bi-xenon headlights.

Praise for the Volkswagen CC model has included its sleeker looks and coupe profile, offering drivers the best of both worlds where they get a convenient 4-door sedan but the styling of a sportier car. The quality of the interior was also praised for offering a more upmarket alternative to the regular Passat sedan.

However, the main downsides were a small trunk offering just 13 cubic feet of space, and a more squashed back seat that was definitely not appealing to a group of adults who were forced to ride in the rear. The suspension was also rock hard with some saying that it felt as though every vibration went straight to your backside.
