About the Córdoba

First debuted at the Frankfurt Motor show, the SEAT Cordoba was styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro and was essentially a customized version of the Ibiza.

SEAT took their popular Ibiza and turned it into a saloon, estate and coupe, designed to appeal to a wide variety of demographics. Giorgetto Giugiaro is an Italian designer who has worked on both supercars and everyday vehicles alike.

Perhaps the most popular vehicle Giugiaro created was the infamous DMC DeLorean, a car made popular by the Back to the Future franchise.

Sharing its engine with the VW Polo and (of course) the Ibiza, the Cordoba has an option of 1.4-liter, 1.6-liter, 1.8 liter and 2-liter petrol engines.

1999 saw an upgrade to the bumpers, headlights and taillights and the front grille. A special edition, the SX was sold with 16-inch wheels, ABS and air conditioning.

This car's existence in Brritain was short-lived, with SEAT removing it from the UK.

For two years (1998 – 2000), the Cordoba was the official rally car for Seat, built with a 2-liter turbo engine.

The second generation was showcased at the Paris Motor Show as a four-door saloon with a huge boot for its class, capable of holding 485 liters when the rear seats were folded.

Sales dwindled after a promising start, with the first year seeing 108,749 sales compared to 2009 with just 4,861. Numerous review sites commented on the curse of the saloon/hatchback, referencing similar vehicles in the past performing abysmally. Another hatchback to have been turned into a saloon for expectant success was the Ford Focus.

Despite poor sales, the Cordoba actually received good reviews for drive quality, large boot and comfort. The only criticism was the lack of a 6th gear to make motorway driving more comfortable.
