About the Cooper

Originally, the Mini Cooper was the performance version of the popular little car when it was launched back in the 1960s.

It found fame in motorsports as it was small, lightweight and nimble around the corners - giving the heavy competitors at the time a real run for their money.

This won the original Mini loads of fame and respect and helped bolster sales, etching the Cooper name into automobile history.

At the end of the 1990s, Rover Group (which was owned by BMW) started to showcase revived Mini models with the intention of bringing them back onto the roads.

By 2001 the new Mini was launched using its own spin-off brand underneath BMW with the intention of helping bring down the average emissions across its line of models.

This was a relatively new policy brought in by the European Union to drive down carbon emissions and make automakers liable for this on their end.

At this point in history, BMW had no small cars on sale, it would be many years until the 1 Series and 2 Series lines would become available.

Ever since the introduction of this new Mini line the new brand has continued to evolve and offer new lines based on this revival line.

Some are almost identical including their range of performance trims that bare the Cooper and Cooper Works names.

Then some are crossover SUVs like the Paceman and the Countryman has more of a "van" layout with barn doors on the rear.

All of these have warning lights that are very similar if not identical to those in BMW models.

You may find that if you recognize the ones in a BMW then you will definitely understand the meanings of the dashboard symbols in a Mini Cooper.
