About the Stonic

The Kia Stonic is a small SUV that is based on the popular Rio hatchback. It aims to keep the personality of the Rio, whilst adding boot space, bigger tyres and all-new styling. The Stonic is overall a solid small SUV, but you may find better value for your money from competitors.

The Stonic has two engines in its line-up. Drivers can either opt for a 1.0 Litre T-GDi, or a punchier 1.0-liter hybrid. The standard engine produces just 99 horsepower and will accelerate from 0-60 in just under 11 seconds. This engine leaves a lot to be desired and can feel much too slow at times, especially on the motorway. Luckily, Kia has offered a hybrid version of the Stonic, which bumps the horsepower to 118, and it really does make a difference. You’ll find that you don’t have to work the engine so hard, and overall speed and acceleration will feel noticeably faster.

The overall ride is what you’d expect from a small SUV. It’s comfy, provided you don’t push the engine too hard, and the steering feels very reminiscent of the Kia Rio, which is nothing but a compliment.

The Stonic’s interior feels of very high quality. You won’t find any cheap plastics around the dashboard, and the overall look is very eye-catching. As a small SUV, you’ll also get a decent amount of storage space too. This won’t be as much as bigger models from Audi or Land Rover, but it’ll certainly be enough for most people.

As for infotainment, the Stonic is equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen as standard. This is one of the best systems at its price point, and the graphics are great as well as the overall usability. Although, if you want a built-in Satnav, you will have to pay extra.
