About the Sportage

The Kia Sportage is a family SUV that aims to stand out in a highly competitive market with bold looks and impressive performance. The Sportage certainly looks the part, and for the most part, backs this up with great performance too.

Under the hood, the car offers two choices. Buyers can either choose a 1.6 Litre petrol engine, or a self-charging hybrid, which uses the same engine. The petrol version offers 148 horsepower and will accelerate from 0-60 in under ten seconds. The hybrid offers 226 horsepower and takes the 0-60 time down to just 7.2 seconds. The Sportage certainly feels powerful, and you won’t find yourself wishing for more of a kick.

The overall ride quality of the Sportage is excellent. You’ll struggle to notice small bumps and potholes, and the suspension finds a good balance between comfort and performance.

Inside the cabin, the sporty little SUV feels incredibly robust, thanks to great build quality. The trim is a metallic finish, which gives the Sportage a sleek and modern look. Couple this with high-quality soft plastics, and it truly is a great place to sit in. There’s also more than enough room for passengers and luggage, increasing the overall practicality of the Sportage.

The Sportage comes with an 8-inch touchscreen as standard, which can be upgraded to a 12.3-inch screen. This can be connected to multiple smartphones at once, allowing you to play your own music with ease. The infotainment system is incredibly responsive and features some of the best graphics on the market.

Underneath the modern versions of the car is the same platform at work under the Niro, another small SUV from Kia. The company's strategic partner Hyundai also has a range of SUVs using the same platform such as the Santa Cruz and the Tucson.

Some common problems with the Sportage include faulty seatbelts. Many drivers have reported seatbelts malfunctioning after little to no use, which can be incredibly frustrating, especially if you have children. Other complaints include random engine stalling and water leaking into the footwells.
