About the Cherokee

The Jeep Cherokee is a full-size SUV, that is famous for being an integral part of the US automotive history. However, despite its standing in the history books, the Cherokee fails to deliver in key areas and as such, you’d be better to buy an alternative SUV from the likes of BMW or Hyundai.

Under the hood, entry-level models come equipped with a 2.0-liter diesel engine. This produces 140 horsepower, which makes the Cherokee feel slow and sluggish. Considering the weight of the car, this engine is very small. Thankfully, there is also a 170-horsepower version, which makes this problem slightly better. However, compared to its competition, even the best model will fail to impress in terms of speed and power.

The suspension and handling are also underwhelming. The suspension allows the Cherokee to traverse tougher terrains, however, you’ll feel every single pothole that you glide over. This can make the ride incredibly uncomfortable. Couple this with heavy steering, and the SUV can be a real chore to drive.

The story continues when you enter the cabin. Drivers will find extremely cheap plastics around the cabin, which will break and scratch easily. This, alongside the dull design, makes the Cherokee a pretty horrible place to be inside.

Thankfully, the Cherokee does offer enormous amounts of room and cargo space. You can easily fit multiple suitcases if you’re driving to the airport, enough camping equipment for a family, and pretty much everything else you could think of.

As for infotainment and technology, this Jeep is pretty sparse. You’ll receive a 5-inch touchscreen infotainment center as standard. However, compared to rivals, this is simply abysmal. The graphics are poor, and the screen will frequently glitch and delay. If you want great technology, consider an SUV from Hyundai.
