About the Corvette

You might call it the Chevy Corvette, or simply the ‘Vette, but this is one sports car that you simply can’t miss from the all-American sports car hall of fame. It is one of the most iconic and storied models in automobile history, spanning 8 generations from 1953 to the present day.

An interesting part of Chevrolet Corvette’s recent history has been the company successfully bringing prices down to relatively “affordable” levels, with the first eighth-generation models starting at under $60,000. At the time of writing, the very latest models start at $65,595.

The Corvette was a smash hit from day one, attracting enough attention at its first motor show to prompt mass production from 1953. The ‘Vette really became iconic, however, upon the launch of its second-generation in 1963, the Corvette Sting Ray, later stylized as Stingray.

Through the years, the Corvette was noted for its unique body shape, fin designs, powerful engines and superlative on-road performance. This was --- and remains --- essentially a street-legal race car from Chevrolet. It launches from 0 to 60-mph in just 2.8 seconds.

Its latest version packs a 6.2-liter V8 engine, generating 490-hp and 470 lb-ft of torque. That can be augmented to 495-hp with the Z51 package, which also adds a dual-mode performance exhaust system, and an electronic limited-slip rear differential.

The powertrain is linked to an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, and the latest models are the first not to offer a manual transmission as an option. This is an increasingly common feature, however, with DCTs being applied more frequently.

The Chevy Corvette comes as a coupe or a hard-top convertible, but many stick with coupe as the coupe roof can be removed manually for open-top driving anyway.

Interior features include wireless device charging, 14-speaker Bose stereo, blind-spot monitoring, driver head-up display, heated and ventilated seats, and more.
