About the Stelvio

Alfa Romeo entered the lucrative crossover SUV market in the 2017 model year with the Stelvio.

It sits upon the same chassis used under their Giulia compact executive car, making it a compact crossover SUV.

That same platform also sits underneath the 2021 onward Jeep Cherokee as it moves from the classic SUV segment it was in before.

Buyers of the Stelvio can choose from one of three engines in the front of the car, with both diesel and gasoline options.

A 2.2-liter turbodiesel and 2-liter turbocharged gasoline sit in the reasonable end with a performance-focused 2.9-liter twin-turbo on the other.

The twin-turbocharged engine was developed by Ferrari for Alfa Romeo and pushes out just over 500bhp.

All of these engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission that drives either the rear wheels or all four if you choose to upgrade.

In 2019 the diesel engine was updated to meet European standards with the inclusion of AdBlue to further reduce the cars effect on the environment.

As standard, all Alfa Romeo Stelvio models feature a touchscreen infotainment system in the dashboard.

This infotainment system can connect with both Apple and Android devices and can relay warning lights and dashboard symbols onto the screen.

Compared to the Giulia the Stelvio has many of the same performance components such as a carbon-fiber driveshaft but does have a slightly wider stance.

In 2017 the car was crash-tested by Euro NCAP and almost matched the performance of the segment-leading Volvo XC90.

To help improve its safety score Alfa Romeo put an autonomous braking system in the Stelvio as standard to help prevent collisions.
